One portable USB DVD ROM drive is included per system that uses a Dell R730xd server. The product ID number for the USB DVD ROM drive kit is 2021-K944-V001. The kit includes instructions for using the drive.
Balanced Data Node for Hadoop Balanced Data Nodes for Hadoop consist of Dell R730xd chassis with:
  • Two 2.5 GHz twelve-core E5-2680 v3 processors (30MB L3 cache)
  • 256 GB or 512 GB memory using 32 GB DIMMs (DDR4-2133 MT/s)
  • One of the following for data storage:
    • Twelve 4 TB SAS 3.5" 7.2K rpm SED drives for data storage
    • Twelve 8 TB SAS 3.5" 7.2K rpm non-SED drives for data storage
    Drive sizes cannot be mixed in the node.
  • Two 1.2 TB SAS 2.5" 10K rpm SED drives for OS

680 Platform Teradata Data Mart Appliance Maximum of one optional 680 system in a base cabinet, consisting of:
  • One Teradata Database node
  • One disk array

The system can include an optional channel server.

The number and location of optional components in a base cabinet depends on the type of power used (A, B, C, or D). A 680 system is field installed only.

2800 Platform Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance Maximum of one optional 2800 system (2+0 clique or 4+0 clique) in a base cabinet:
  • A 2+0 clique consists of:
    • Two Teradata Database nodes
    • One disk array
  • A 4+0 clique consists of:
    • Four Teradata Database nodes
    • Two disk arrays

The system can include an optional channel server.

The number and location of optional components in a base cabinet depends on the type of power used (A, B, C, or D). A 2800 system is field installed only.

Server Management Switches Each cabinet contains two 24-port 1 Gb Ethernet switches for connecting nodes, servers, 680 and 2800 disk arrays, and Lenovo G8272 switches to the server management network.
Customer LAN switch Optional Lenovo G8272 48-port (48 10 Gb SFP+ and 6 x 40 Gb) Ethernet switch for connecting nodes to the customer network. Server management monitors and manages the switch.
Extended Channel Solution (ECS) Dell R720 or Dell R730 server, configured as dedicated server for remote interface between Teradata Database and IBM (or compatible) mainframe:
  • Two 900 GB or 1.2 TB SAS (serial-attached SCSI) drives for OS
  • Dell R720: Dual 2.0 GHz six-core 15MB L3 cache E5-2620 processors
  • Dell R730: Dual 2.6 GHz eight-core 15MB L3 cache E5-2640 v3 processors
  • Dell R720: 128 GB memory using 16 GB DIMMs
  • Dell R730: 256 GB memory using 32 GB DIMMs

Teradata Managed Server (TMS)

Teradata Multipurpose Server (TMS)

TMSs consist of Dell R720, R720xd, R730, and R730xd servers used for solution offerings that are peripheral to Teradata processing.

All TMSs have onboard connectivity to the server management network.

If sufficient InfiniBand switch ports are available, the server can also be connected to the InfiniBand switches.

SAS HPA Worker Node Dell Server configured for SAS High-Performance Analytics in-memory software. For more information, see the Teradata Appliance for SAS High-Performance Analytics Model 720 Platform Product and Site Preparation Guide, B035-5410, or the Teradata Appliance for SAS High-Performance Analytics Model 750 Platform Product and Site Preparation Guide, B035-6042.
InfiniBand Interconnect Redundant InfiniBand switches available in base and expansion cabinets or InfiniBand switch cabinets.
  • In base and expansion cabinets:
    • Nodes connect to 36-port switches in base or expansion cabinets.
    • 36-port switches in base or expansion cabinets connect to:
      • 36-port switches in the first expansion cabinet (second cabinet) for systems up to 162 nodes.
      • 108-port switches in an InfiniBand cabinet for systems up to 486 nodes.
      • 324-port switches in a pair of InfiniBand cabinets for systems up to 1,458 nodes.
  • In InfiniBand switch cabinets:
    • 108-port InfiniBand switches connect a maximum of 486 nodes to the InfiniBand network.
      The 108-port InfiniBand cabinets may also have one or two optional TMSs and an optional System VMS. If a System VMS is included, a KVM is also included.
    • 324-port InfiniBand switches connect a maximum of 1,458 nodes to the InfiniBand network.
Adapters InfiniBand network adapters:
  • Mellanox MCX354A-FCBT (ConnectX-3) InfiniBand PCIe3 adapter in nodes, channel servers, and as an option in TMSs
Optional network communications adapters:
  • 1 Gb Ethernet, PCIe2, i350-T4, quad-port, Copper

Cable Modes Teradata systems are shipped with multi-mode fiber (MMF) connections for the 10Gb Ethernet optical interface into all servers. Single-mode fiber (SMF) connections are not supported.
Virtualized Management Server (VMS) A virtualized management server (VMS) is an Intel R1208 or R1208WT chassis. A VMS can host the following virtual machines (VMs):
  • CMIC -- The CMIC provides server management services for the system cabinets.
  • SWS -- The SWS is the service entry for the system.
  • Viewpoint -- The Viewpoint VM manages only a single Hadoop cluster or a single Aster cluster.

An Intel R1208 or R1208WT VMS is available in System VMS and Cabinet VMS configurations. Each Teradata Appliance for Hadoop 5 cabinet contains a System VMS and InfiniBand switch cabinets contain a Cabinet VMS.

Each System VMS consists of:

  • CMIC, SWS, and Viewpoint VMs. The Viewpoint VM can support up to 128 nodes and servers.
  • For Intel R1208: Two 2.0 GHz six-core E5-2620 processors; for Intel R1208WT: Two 2.4 GHz six-core E5-2620 v3 processors
  • For Intel R1208: 128 GB memory using eight 16 GB DIMMs, DDR3 (1333 MHz); for Intel R1208WT: 128 GB memory using eight 16 GB DIMMs, DDR4 (2133 MHz)
  • Two 600 GB RAID 1 drives for boot/system operations
  • Two 600 GB RAID 1 drives for Viewpoint data storage (optional)
  • Onboard connectivity to server management network
  • Onboard or adapter connectivity to customer network
  • SLES 11 OS on VMS, CMIC VM, SWS, and Viewpoint VMs

Each Cabinet VMS consists of:

  • CMIC VM
  • For Intel R1208: One 2.0 GHz six-core E5-2620 processor; for Intel R1208WT: One 2.4 GHz six-core E5-2620 v3 processor
  • For Intel R1208: 64 GB memory using four 16 GB DIMMs, DDR3 (1333 MHz); for Intel R1208WT: 64 GB memory using four 16 GB DIMMs, DDR4 (2133 MHz)
  • Two 600 GB RAID 1 drives for boot/system operations
  • Onboard connectivity to server management network
  • Onboard or adapter connectivity to customer network
  • SLES 11 OS on VMS and CMIC VM
Server Management Web (SMWeb) Services Server management functions run on the CMIC VM (on a VMS). The CMIC hosts the SMWeb Services Home page and provides applications and services for server management on an MPP system:
  • Server Management Client: Monitor status, display events, and perform commands from a single operational view of the system.
  • Command Line Interface: Download remote command line interface utilities
  • Save and Restore: Download, upload, and view configuration files
  • Users and Groups: Manage user and group security levels
  • Network, Devices, and CMICs: Configure the server management network and device management
  • External Connections: Configure settings for communication to the Service Workstation (TVI connection) and the Viewpoint server (Teradata Alerts)

For use by customer on-site staff members, Teradata Services Analysts in the Global Support Center (GSC), and Teradata Customer Service Representatives.

SMWeb and Teradata ServiceConnect are required for Teradata systems. Teradata Appliance for Hadoop 5 platform requires SMWeb 11.06.01 or later for HDP 2.3 or later, and SMWeb 11.06.02 or later for CDH 5.4 or later.

Enterprise Service Workstation (SWS) Dell R720 server that hosts the Viewpoint portal that contains portlets for customer management of the system database. Systems that have more than 128 nodes require dedicated Enterprise Viewpoint hardware (rather than a VMS with a Viewpoint virtual machine). The Enterprise Viewpoint hardware can reside in a Hadoop/Aster cabinet.
  • Adapter connection to server management network
  • SLES 11 SP1 OS
Enterprise Viewpoint Server Dell R720 server that hosts the Viewpoint portal containing portlets for customer management of the system database. Systems that have more than 128 nodes require dedicated enterprise Viewpoint hardware (rather than a VMS with a Viewpoint virtual machine). The enterprise Viewpoint hardware can reside in a Hadoop/Aster cabinet.
  • Adapter connection to server management network
  • SLES 11 SP1 OS
Keyboard, Video, Mouse (KVM) Console The KVM resides in the base processing/storage cabinet and has VGA and USB connections to the VMS.
AC Power Subsystem Teradata Appliance for Hadoop 5 cabinets:
  • Four zero U PDUs, two on each inside rear panel of the cabinet.
  • Two or four AC feeder boxes on each inside rear panel of the cabinet. Available AC feeder box types:
    • Type A power: AC feeder box with a plug rated at 30A for North America and rated at 32A for Europe. The plug is used for both single-phase (220-240V line-to-neutral) or phase-to-phase (208V) connections. Each cabinet has four AC feeder boxes; each AC feeder box has one power cord for a total of four power cords per cabinet. This power type does not support all possible cabinet configurations.
    • Type B power: Three-phase Delta AC feeder box with a plug rated at 30A. Each cabinet has four AC feeder boxes; each AC feeder box has one power cord for a total of four power cords per cabinet.
    • Type C power: Three-phase Delta AC feeder box with a plug rated at 60A. Each cabinet has two AC feeder boxes; each AC feeder box has one power cord for a total of two power cords per cabinet.
    • Type D power: Three-phase Wye 230V L-N AC feeder box with a plug rated at 30A for North America or 32A for Europe. Each cabinet has two AC feeder boxes; each AC feeder box has one power cord for a total of two power cords per cabinet.
InfiniBand switch cabinet:
  • Two AC boxes of the same type per cabinet, mounted side by side at the bottom of the cabinet.
  • For cabinets with 108-port or 324-port switches, the AC box type is a single-cord AC box with a plug rated at 30A for North America and rated at 32A for Europe. The plug is used for both single-phase (220-240V line-to-neutral) or phase-to-phase (208V) connections. Each cabinet has two AC boxes; each AC box has one power cord for a total of two power cords per cabinet.

  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3 (SLES 11 SP3).
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP2-STND (SLES 12 SP2-STND).
Cloudera Distribution for Hadoop (CDH)
  • SLES 11 SP3 operating system can be used with CDH 5.4 through 5.11.
  • SLES 12 SP2-STND operating system can be used with CDH 5.11 or later.
This software includes the Teradata Connector for Hadoop (TDCH), which provides high-performance bi-directional data movement between a Teradata system and a Hadoop system.

Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP)
  • SLES 11 SP3 operating system can be used with HDP 2.3 through 2.6.
  • SLES 12 SP2-STND operating system can be used with HDP 2.6 or later.
This software includes the Teradata Connector for Hadoop (TDCH), which provides high-performance bi-directional data movement between a Teradata system and a Hadoop system.
