It is possible to run PP2 against an application without connecting to the database, depending on the specified SQLCHECK option.

Establish PP2 connection by using the TDPID and USERID PP2 options.
If no USERID is provided and PP2 is operating in the IBM mainframe environment, an implicit connection is attempted (see Implicit Connection for more information).
