Server Management Web (SMWeb) Services Server management functions run on the CMIC VM (on a VMS). The CMIC hosts the SMWeb Services Home page and provides applications and services for server management on an MPP system:
  • Server Management Client: Monitor status, display events, and perform commands from a single operational view of the system.
  • Command Line Interface: Download remote command line interface utilities
  • Save and Restore: Download, upload, and view configuration files
  • Users and Groups: Manage user and group security levels
  • Network, Devices, and CMICs: Configure the server management network and device management
  • TVI Connection: Configure settings for TVI data communications
The TVI connection allows Teradata personnel to establish a remote connection to the customer system and allows communication from the customer system to Teradata.
For use by customer on-site staff members and Teradata Customer Support.
SMWeb 11.04 and Teradata ServiceConnect are required for 2800 systems.
For information about using SMWeb Services, see the Teradata Server Management Web Services User Guide, B035-5350, or the online help on the SMWeb Services home page.
Multi-System Support The server management network (domain) can support multiple systems. For each full production 2800 system, multi-system support enables the inclusion of a second 2800 system and one or two 680 systems in the 2800 base cabinet (depending on cabinet build). Contact Teradata for more information about multi-system configurations.
Enterprise Service Workstation (SWS) Teradata Dell R720 workstation dedicated to system servicing and maintenance. A dedicated Enterprise SWS hardware replaces the SWS virtual machine in the Intel R1208 or Intel R1208WT system VMS. For systems that use dedicated Enterprise SWS hardware, the SWS hardware resides in a Platform Framework Cabinet (PFC).
  • Adapter connection to server management network
  • SLES 11 operating system
The level of service depends on the service agreement between Teradata and the customer.
Enterprise Viewpoint Server Teradata Dell R720 server that hosts the Viewpoint portal that contains portlets for customer management of the Teradata Database. Multi-system configurations and single systems that have more than 128 nodes or servers require dedicated Enterprise Viewpoint hardware (rather than a VMS with a Viewpoint virtual machine). For systems that use dedicated Enterprise Viewpoint hardware, the Viewpoint hardware can reside in a PFC.
  • Adapter connection to server management network
  • SLES 10 SP3 operating system
Keyboard, Video, Mouse (KVM) Console The KVM resides in the 2800 base processing/storage cabinet and has VGA and USB connections to the system VMS.
Cable Management Base and expansion cabinets are pre-wired for two cliques, with cable harness provided for server management Ethernet per node. BYNET V5 cabinets do not have cable harnesses.

Platform Framework Cabinets have cable harnesses for power and server management.

Openings in cabinet sides near the rear of the rack accommodate inter-rack cabling.

AC Power Subsystem 2800 base and expansion cabinets:
  • Four zero U PDUs, two on each inside rear panel of the cabinet.
  • Two or four AC feeder boxes on each inside rear panel of the cabinet. Available AC feeder box types:
    • Type A power: AC feeder box with a plug rated at 30A for North America and rated at 32A for Europe. The plug is used for both single-phase (220-240V line-to-neutral) or phase-to-phase (208V) connections. Each cabinet has four AC feeder boxes; each AC feeder box has one power cord for a total of four power cords per cabinet. This power type does not support all possible cabinet configurations.
    • Type B power: Three-phase Delta AC feeder box with a plug rated at 30A. Each cabinet has four AC feeder boxes; each AC feeder box has one power cord for a total of four power cords per cabinet.
    • Type C power: Three-phase Delta AC feeder box with a plug rated at 60A. Each cabinet has two AC feeder boxes; each AC feeder box has one power cord for a total of two power cords per cabinet.
    • Type D power: Three-phase Wye 230V L-N AC feeder box with a plug rated at 30A for North America or 32A for Europe. Each cabinet has two AC feeder boxes; each AC feeder box has one power cord for a total of two power cords per cabinet.
BYNET V5 cabinet:
  • Two AC boxes of the same type per cabinet.
  • For cabinets with the 108-port or 324-port switch, the AC box type is a single-cord AC box with a plug rated at 30A for North America and rated at 32A for Europe. The plug is used for both single-phase (220-240V line-to-neutral) or phase-to-phase (208V) connections. Each cabinet has two AC boxes; each AC box has one power cord for a total of two power cords per cabinet.
The PFC cabinet has two AC boxes of the same type per cabinet. For information about the PFC cabinet power subsystem, see the Teradata Platform Framework Cabinet Model 12 Product and Site Preparation Guide, B035-5388.
Co-residence The 2800 platform can co-reside with the 2700 and 2750 platforms. When creating a co-residence system, follow these guidelines:
  • Make sure that the same operating system and service pack level is installed on all processing nodes.
  • Make sure that the same Teradata Database version (including all the latest certified software/firmware levels) is installed on all processing nodes.
  • Co-residence with the 2700 or 2750 platform requires a change control to move the 2700 or 2750 from hardware compression to software compression.
  • For co-residence with 2700 or 2750 platforms using BYNET V5, a BYNET V5 interface adapter must be installed in each processing node and channel server in the 2800, 2750, and 2700.
  • For co-residence with 2750 platforms using BYNET-over-Ethernet, an Ethernet adapter must be installed in each processing node and channel server in the 2800 and 2750.
Unified Data Architecture

(UDA)

The 2800 production system and, if installed, the 2800 second system or 680 systems are UDA-capable. For more information, contact Teradata Customer Support.
