Purpose

The Record parcel returns one row of selected results. The results are either in Record Mode or Indicator Mode, depending on which mode is requested.

Parcel Data

The following table explains how Record Parcel modes relate to nulls.

In this mode... Nulls are...
Record not explicitly identified in the Record parcel.
Indicator explicitly identified.

The Flavor and the Data Field contain the same values in the Record Mode and Indicator Mode versions although the Data Field has a different offset in the two versions.

There is no obvious way to distinguish a Record Mode Record parcel from an Indicator Mode Record parcel by examining the Record parcel itself.

However, the mode can be determined either by remembering the type of request parcel (Req or IndicReq) or by noting the response context.

In Indicator Mode, the parcel immediately before the first Record Mode Record parcel is a Success parcel; in Indicator Mode, the parcel immediately before the first Indicator Mode Record parcel is a DataInfo parcel, which is preceded by the Success parcel.
