Deleting Metamodel Items from the Repository

Deleting metamodel items should be done very carefully, if at all. Do not delete a metamodel item if you are unsure as to whether it should be deleted.

When a metamodel item is deleted, it is completely removed from the MDS repository; there is no undo or recovery of the metamodel item.

  • When a metamodel is deleted, all classes in that metamodel are also deleted.
  • When a class is deleted, that class and every object in that class is deleted.
  • When a property is deleted, it is removed from every object in that class.
  • When a relationship is deleted, it is completely removed.
  • To delete metamodel items from the repository:

1 In the Navigation Pane, click Metamodel Administration.

2 Select an application information metamodel (AIM), and then click Go.

3 From the MDS Metamodel Administration screen you can delete the following:

  • Metamodel: Click Delete under the description of the metamodel.
  • Class: Select a class and then click Delete under the Classes area.
  • Relationship: Select a relationship and then click Delete under the Relationships area.
  • Property: Select a class, click Class Properties, select a property, and then click Delete.
  • 4 Click OK to confirm the deletion.

There may be a delay for deletion to be accomplished, depending on the number of metamodel items being deleted.

Note: The four pre-defined and loaded metamodels (ClientLoadModel, Core, DatabaseModel, and MDSMetamodel) cannot be deleted.
