Creating a Metamodel (AIM)

An AIM (Application Information Metamodel) or simply metamodel, defines how metadata is stored and associated to other metadata in the MDS repository. AIMs can be defined to store metadata from a wide variety of sources external to Teradata. An AIM consists of:

  • Classes – Types of metadata objects in the MDS repository
  • Properties – Data fields associated with a particular class of metadata
  • Relationships – Associations between two classes of metadata. Each relationship defines an origin class and a destination class of metadata.
  • To create a metamodel (AIM):

1 In the Navigation Pane, click Metamodel Administration.

    2 Click New Metamodel.

The Create Metamodel dialog box appears.

3 Enter or select the necessary information.

    For detailed instructions, click .

4 Click Create to create the AIM.

Upon successful completion, the new metamodel appears in the Repository Metamodels list of the MDS Metamodel Administration screen. You can add classes or relationships now or add them later, as needed. See “Creating a Repository Class” on page 84 and “Creating a Repository Relationship” on page 87.
