The Teradata Appliance for Hadoop 6 platform delivers an enterprise-ready appliance solution for storing, managing, refining, and analyzing big data, comprised of structured, unstructured, and semi-structured data.

The Teradata Appliance for Hadoop 6 platform cabinets can be configured to contain only nodes for Hadoop, or a combination of nodes for Hadoop, Aster nodes, and a limited selection of Teradata nodes. The cabinets can also contain a selection of TMS servers and SAS HPA worker nodes. The Teradata Appliance for Hadoop 6 may contain a maximum of four clusters, whether they are Hadoop and/or Aster clusters.

The Teradata Appliance for Hadoop 6 platform is offered with the following software:
  • Cloudera Distribution for Hadoop (CDH), release 5.8 or later (includes the Teradata Connector for Hadoop (TDCH), which provides high-performance bi-directional data movement between a Teradata system and a Hadoop system)
  • Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP), release 2.5 or later (includes the Teradata Connector for Hadoop (TDCH), which provides high-performance bi-directional data movement between a Teradata system and a Hadoop system)
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3 (SLES 11 SP3) operating system can be used with CDH 5.8 through 5.11, and HDP 2.4 through 2.6.
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP2-STND (SLES 12 SP2-STND) operating system can be used with CDH 5.11 or later, and HDP 2.6 or later.
The minimum configuration for a Hadoop cluster for HDP 2.4.2 or later Base consists of six nodes for Hadoop:
  • Three Master Nodes for Hadoop
  • Three Data Nodes for Hadoop
The minimum configuration for a Hadoop cluster for HDP 2.4.2 or later Plus consists of seven nodes for Hadoop:
  • Three Master Nodes for Hadoop
  • Three Data Nodes for Hadoop
  • One Edge Node for Hadoop
The minimum configuration for a Hadoop cluster for CDH 5.8 or later (Basic Edition, Data Engineering Edition, Operational Database Edition, Analytic Database Edition or Data Hub Edition) consists of six nodes for Hadoop:
  • Three Master Nodes for Hadoop
  • Three Data Nodes for Hadoop

Once the minimum is satisfied for HDP 2.4.2 or later, or CDH 5.8 or later, a Hadoop configuration can scale to include additional Data Nodes and Edge Nodes, as required for the site (with Edge Nodes placed above the Data Nodes).

In addition to nodes for Hadoop, the Teradata Appliance for Hadoop 6 cabinets can contain the following field or factory-installable components:
  • One Teradata 680 system
  • One Teradata 2800 system or one Teradata 2850 system (4+0 or 2+0 cliques)
  • Channel nodes (for use with the 680, 2800, or 2850)
  • SAS HPA worker nodes
  • Aster nodes/clusters
  • Hadoop 5 nodes/clusters
