The Teradata Aster® Big Analytics Appliance 3H and 4 platforms deliver an enterprise-ready appliance solution for storing, managing, and analyzing big data, comprised of structured, unstructured, and semi-structured data. The appliance combines patented Aster Database with best-in-class Teradata platform hardware.
The Teradata Aster® Big Analytics Appliance 3H and 4 platform cabinets can be configured to contain only Aster nodes or a combination of other nodes, including generic TMS servers, Viewpoint enterprise servers, SAS HPA worker nodes, and nodes for Hadoop, in any combination, as long as there are also Aster nodes in the cabinet. Teradata Aster® Big Analytics Appliance 3H and 4 nodes can co-reside in the same cabinet.
Teradata Aster® Big Analytics Appliance 5 nodes, Teradata Appliance for Hadoop 5 nodes, and Teradata Appliance for Hadoop 6 nodes can be installed in the same cabinet. For further details about these nodes, see the respective Platform Product and Site Preparation Guide.
A minimum Aster configuration consists of one Aster queen node and two Aster worker nodes for test/development systems, or two Aster queen nodes (one being a secondary/standby queen node) and three Aster worker nodes for production systems. The Aster configuration can scale to include as many worker, loader, and backup nodes as is required for the site.
The Teradata Aster® Big Analytics Appliance 3H platform was offered with Aster Database software version 5.01 or later, and supports both SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (SLES 11) and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 (SLES 12) SP2-STND.
The Teradata Aster® Big Analytics Appliance 4 platform is offered with Aster Database software version 6.00.01 or later, and supports both SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (SLES 11) and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 (SLES 12) SP2-STND.
Aster Database software includes the high-speed, bi-directional Teradata-Aster connector.
