Common Uses for ARC
Teradata Database includes many automatic data protection features. However, these
features do not cover all types of data loss. The ARC utility provides additional
data protection for these situations:
Loss of an AMP vdisk for no fallback tables
Loss of more than one AMP in a cluster
Failed batch processes
Accidentally dropped tables, views, or macros
User errors
Disaster recovery
You can use ARC to:
Archive a database, individual database object, or selected row partitions from Teradata
Database to an archive file.
Restore a database, individual database object, or selected row partitions to Teradata
Database from an archived file.
Restore a copied database, table, or selected row or column partitions to a different
Teradata Database.
Note: Selected row partition archive, restores, or copies are only for PPI and MLPPI.
Recover a database to an arbitrary checkpoint by rolling it backward or forward using
before- or after-change images in a permanent journal table.
Copy a database, individual database object, or selected row partitions to the same
or a different Teradata Database from an archived file.
Delete a changed-image row from a permanent journal table.
