Volatile tables must be created manually, by executing CREATE VOLATILE TABLE statements from the SQL Editor.

Volatile tables exist only during the session in which they are created. When a database session ends, Teradata Database automatically drops all volatile tables that were created during the session. After you have created a volatile table, use the Load Data wizard to import external data into the table.
  1. In the SQL Editor view, click . The Load Data to Volatile Table dialog opens.
  2. From the Volatile Table list, select the volatile table to which you want to import data, and click OK. Importing data to volatile tables is the purview of the Data Transfer perspective. The Switch Perspective dialog box may appear and offer to switch you to that perspective during this process. Switching perspectives is optional. The Data Transfer perspective shows the progress of the data import in the Progress Monitor view, and includes the Transfer History view, which may be helpful. After switching perspectives or dismissing the Switch Perspective dialog, the Data Transfer Wizard opens.
  3. In the Data Transfer Wizard, for Source Type chose External File (FastLoad), and click Launch. The Load Data Wizard opens.
  4. For File Type specify the format of the file that has the external data.
  5. For Input File, enter the name of the file, or click Browse to navigate to the file on your system or network. A sample of the data in the input file is displayed in a table form preview, based on the File Options. If the sample data is not displayed correctly, change the File Options to correctly represent the input file format.
  6. Click Finish. The external data is imported to the volatile table.
