When shutting down a NFS environment and NFS server, you must shut down the NFS clients before the NFS server. If you shut down the NFS server before the NFS clients, the NFS clients to that mount point will hang during the unmounts because the server is offline.

For example, if you have an NFS mount in an environment where there are 4 media servers, and the NFS server is running from mediaServer1:
  1. On mediaServer2-4, shut down all ClientHandler processes. This unmounts the NFS mount points that mediaServer2-4 use.
  2. Shut down the NFS server.
