You can scale a Vantage up or down by changing the instance types and necessary configuration changes in the system. Be sure to scale only supported instance types. See Amazon User Guide for Linux Instances.
- After provisioning, you can scale the original instance size up or down by up to two instance sizes within the same instance family. For instance, in the case of an r5.12xlarge instance, you can scale up to an r5.16xlarge or r5.24xlarge, and to scale down to an r5.8xlarge or r5.4xlarge instance. Scaling unsupported instance types may impact database performance. Data loss will occur if you scale up or scale down local storage instance types.
- Scaling an instance up or down has no effect on Teradata software that is running on an instance, nor does it affect the amount of storage of the deployed instance.
You can scale up or down manually by stopping all of the instances and restarting the entire system. See Scaling Instances Up or Down Manually.
