Teradata VantageCloud Lake now supports reading from and writing to data stored in Apache Iceberg and Delta Lake formatted data lakes. Customers can run analytical workloads on Apache Iceberg and Delta Lake Open Table Format (Iceberg OTF) tables directly within Teradata VantageCloud Lake.
Users can effortlessly query and write Iceberg and Delta Lake OTF tables stored in popular catalogs such as Unity Catalog, AWS Glue Data Catalog, or Apache Hive using simple and intuitive SQL syntax. The offering is compliant with Apache Iceberg Specifications Version 2 and Delta Lake Documentation. Cross reads are supported across Amazon S3, Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 (ADLS Gen2) and Google Cloud Storage (GCS), alongside users or applications manipulating data in the Iceberg and Delta Lake OTF Tables using ACID (Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation, Durability)-compliant services.
Teradata VantageCloud Lake now extended its support for Managed OTF (MOTF) feature. MOTF is Teradata’s implementation of a managed solution for Open Table Format (OTF) table support, built on its existing infrastructure. It enables high-performance access to OTF data with enterprise-grade features like indexing and optimization, across any format, catalog, or environment — cloud, on-premises, or hybrid. This feature simplifies data management by automating tasks like compaction, snapshots, and cleanup through scheduling. It also supports data reorganization and purging, helping reduce storage and processing costs while allowing users to focus on extracting insights from large datasets.
This document describes the steps to set up, query and update Iceberg/Delta Lake tables using VantageCloud Lake.
