Client tools and utilities support 3-level dot notation including Statement Info Parcel (SIP) enhancements, Virtual System Dictionary (VSD), and HELP COLUMN.
The VSD gathers data dictionary metadata information for both Block File System (BFS), Object File System (OFS), and Open Table Format (OTF) tables.
You can submit OTF queries using client tools and utilities:
- If the object is a BSF or OFS table, it queries the DBC dictionary view
- If the object is an OTF table, it uses the Java OTF table operator to query the Datalake metadata
The SIP full content metadata item layout includes the catalog name. For OTF, the Datalake is used for the catalog name.
The HELP COLUMN supports OTF columns, including those referenced by OTF alias tables. In addition, the HELP commands for Datalake databases and tables include the same columns as the HELP commands for BFS objects.
