The WHENEVER statement itself is not executable. PP2 generates code for each executable SQL statement based on the WHENEVER conditions in effect at the time of the call.

If no WHENEVER statement is specified, the default condition is CONTINUE.

An explicit WHENEVER statement affects all following SQL statements until another WHENEVER statement is encountered.

This is a declarative; the WHENEVER statement is processed as it is sequenced in the source and not how it is executed at runtime.
