Vantage translates characters received from a client system into a form suitable for storage and processing on the server.
Vantage translates characters returned to a client into a form suitable for storage, display, printing, and processing on that client.
The server communicates with each client in the language of that client. For this process to work, the database must be informed of the character set that each client uses.
