Using Temporal Table Support
Learn about Teradata support for temporal (time-aware) tables and data, including SQL language reference material and examples specific to the practical creation and manipulation of temporal tables.
The temporal tables discussed in this guide are not ANSI-compliant because Teradata introduced support for creating and manipulating temporal tables before an ANSI/ISO standard had been developed. Consequently, the original Teradata temporal tables and SQL syntax do not conform to the ANSI standard. When ANSI/ISO standards for temporal tables were approved, Teradata developed ANSI-compliant temporal tables and SQL syntax. Both the ANSI-compliant and original non-ANSI compliant versions of temporal tables are available in Teradata Vantage™.
Why Would I Use this Content?
Some applications need to design and build databases where information changes over time. This guide teaches you how to create, query, and modify temporal tables, valid-time tables, and transaction-time tables, and what is needed to use temporal tables with Teradata Vantage.
