A NetBackup schedule policy allows automated scheduling of DSA backup jobs. After you have created a schedule policy using the NetBackup Administration Console, the schedule policy uses the tdbackex script to initiate the scheduled backup jobs. A schedule policy is different than the policy that defines devices and dataset retention levels used in a backup job.
A NetBackup schedule policy can be configured to run one or more backup jobs at a designated time, or multiple schedules can be created for a single policy.
When scheduling full, delta, and cumulative backup jobs, at least three policy schedules must be created: one policy contains the schedule for the full backup, one policy contains the schedule for the delta backup, and one policy contains the schedule for the cumulative backup.
With delta or cumulative backup jobs, the latest full backup data set must be available to restore a subsequent delta or cumulative data set. This means that the full backup dataset and succeeding delta or cumulative backup data set must be retained until the latest delta or cumulative data set no longer need to be restored, and a new full backup data set is present.
