Customers may choose to add more TCores to the Advanced SQL Engine by scaling up to change the size of instances and scaling back down once requirements are met. Customers may also choose to add more TCores by scaling out to change the number of instances and scaling back in once requirements are met.
Subject to AWS infrastructure availability, scaling requires restarting the Advanced SQL Engine, during which time customers cannot submit queries and any running queries will need to be restarted.

Customers can also add more TCores (up to a limit) without restarting the Advanced SQL Engine by leveraging Elastic Performance on Demand (EPOD).

To meet growing storage requirements, customers can also increase storage per Vantage instance.

To reduce expenses, customers can stop and restart Advanced SQL Engine compute instances without affecting persistent storage. When the Advanced SQL Engine is offline, the Machine Learning and Graph Engines are also offline and unavailable to process queries. Customers can also stop the Machine Learning and Graph Engine instances when not in use and then restart them.
