Some storage information can be found using the SYMplicity utility, specifically the state of every drive group, LUN, and disk drive on any Teradata storage array.

If the multi-pathing driver used is teradata-multipath then use the tmdputil utility to display information about the storage devices.

When pdisk problems result from failed storage, SYMplicity shows the corresponding storage device as failed or missing. Use SYMplicity to gather storage recovery information by looking at the valid storage on the array. Typically all LUNs on a disk array used by Teradata are set up the same. This means that storage parameters obtained from a LUN adjacent to a failed LUN will have the same RAID level, capacity, segment size, and typically the same number of slices as the failed or missing LUN. You can also find this information in the devicemap.txt file.

Important: SYMplicity does not support the large segment sizes used for Teradata storage so cannot, therefore, be used to create new LUNs. It can, however, be used to delete them, if necessary. It is also useful for identifying failed drives and checking the state of those drives after they have been replaced. SYMplicity is capable of a variety of destructive operations, so use caution when performing any kind of repair on a disk array that contains customer data.
