The following table outlines the features and components of the appliance.
Feature | Feature Description |
---|---|
Model 720 SAS HPA Worker Node | SAS HPA worker nodes consist of a
Dell R720 chassis with:
|
Model 750 SAS HPA Worker Node | SAS HPA worker nodes are
available as SAS HPA Base worker nodes and SAS HPA Performance
worker nodes.
For further information, see the Teradata Appliance for SAS High-Performance Analytics Model 750 Platform Product and Site Preparation Guide, B035-6042. |
Model 750 SAS HPA Mid-Tier nodes (optional) |
SAS HPA Mid-Tier nodes run additional SAS software that hosts SAS web services supporting the SAS Visual Analytics VA applications. The SAS HPA Mid-Tier node is a Dell R730 chassis. For further information, see the Teradata Appliance for SAS High-Performance Analytics Model 750 Platform Product and Site Preparation Guide, B035-6042. |
Model 750 SAS App Server |
SAS App Server nodes are used for solution offerings that are peripheral to Teradata processing. The SAS App Server node is a Dell R730xd chassis. For further information, see the Teradata Appliance for SAS High-Performance Analytics Model 750 Platform Product and Site Preparation Guide, B035-6042. In platforms other than SAS HPA
Model 750, the SAS App Server is referred to as the SAS Managed
Server.
|
Extended Channel Solution (ECS) | Dell R730 server, configured as
dedicated server for remote interface between Teradata Database and
IBM (or compatible) mainframe:
|
Teradata Managed Server (TMS) Teradata Multipurpose Server (TMS) |
TMSs consist of Dell R720, R720xd,
Dell R730, and Dell R730xd servers used for solution offerings that
are peripheral to Teradata processing. All TMSs have onboard connectivity to the server management network. If sufficient InfiniBand switch ports are available, the server can also be connected to the InfiniBand switches. For information about TMS configurations, see the Teradata Platform Framework Cabinet Model 12 Product and Site Preparation Guide, B035-5388. |
Teradata Connect Node | Teradata Connect nodes consist of
an Intel R1208 chassis with:
|
Adapters |
SAS worker
node:
Teradata Connect node:
SAS HPA Base, Performance, and Mid-Tier nodes and SAS App Server: Refer to the Adapters section in the Teradata Appliance for SAS High-Performance Analytics Model 750 Platform Product and Site Preparation Guide, B035-6042. |
Cable Modes | Teradata systems are shipped with multi-mode fiber (MMF) connections for the 10Gb Ethernet optical interface into all servers. Single-mode fiber (SMF) connections are not supported. |
InfiniBand Interconnect | Redundant InfiniBand switches for
SAS worker node and Teradata Connect node communication, available
in SAS appliance or InfiniBand cabinets.
|
Virtualized Management Server (VMS) | A virtualized management server
(VMS) can reside in an appliance cabinet, a 162-port InfiniBand
cabinet, or a Platform Framework Cabinet. A VMS
is an Intel R1208 chassis and can host the following virtual
machines (VMs):
An Intel R1208 VMS is available in System VMS and Cabinet VMS configurations. Each System
VMS consists of:
Each Cabinet VMS consists of:
|
Server Management Web (SMWeb) Services | Server management functions run on the CMIC VM (on a VMS). The CMIC hosts the SMWeb Services Home page and provides applications and services for server management on an MPP system:
For use by customer on-site staff members, Teradata Services Analysts in the Global Support Center (GSC), and Teradata Customer Service Representatives. SMWeb 10.04 and Teradata ServiceConnect are required for the appliance.
For information about using SMWeb Services, see the Teradata Server Management Web Services User Guide, B035-5350, or the online help on the SMWeb Services home page. |
Keyboard, Video, Mouse (KVM) Console | The KVM can reside in an appliance cabinet, a 162-port InfiniBand cabinet, or a Platform Framework Cabinet. The KVM should be located in the same cabinet as and be connected to the System VMS or rack-mounted SWS workstation. |
Cable Management | Appliance cabinets have cable
harnesses for server management. InfiniBand cabinets do not have cable harnesses. Platform Framework Cabinets have cable harnesses for power and server management. Openings in cabinet sides near the rear of the rack accommodate inter-rack cabling. |
AC Power Subsystem |
