For UDA systems, the maximum system configuration that can be accomplished with 36-port InfiniBand switches is a 7-cabinet, 126 node system. Systems with between 4 and 7 cabinets require second-tier switches to interconnect the first-tier switches and provide the connection point for the uplinks that connect to the UDA fabric.

For Teradata Connect systems, the maximum system configuration that can be accomplished with 36-port InfiniBand switches is a 9-cabinet, 180 node system. Systems with between 4 and 9 cabinets require second-tier switches to interconnect the first-tier switches.

Second-tier switches are located in Cabinet 2 (the first expansion cabinet) in 4- to 9-cabinet systems.

  • The system consists of one base and up to 6 expansion cabinets (for UDA) or 8 expansion cabinets (for Teradata Connect).
  • Each cabinet contains a combination of SAS HPA Worker nodes, SAS Mid-tier nodes, and SAS App Server nodes.
  • Each cabinet in the appliance can contain up to four Teradata Connect nodes for use as a gateway to a BYNET V4 or BYNET-Over-Ethernet fabric.
  • The base cabinet contains a System VMS for server management.
  • Each expansion cabinet contains a Cabinet VMS for server management.
  • System is scalable up to 126 nodes and servers in any combination for appliances connected to a UDA fabric.
  • System is scalable up to 180 nodes and servers in any combination for appliances with Teradata Connect nodes.
  • Six ports on each of the InfiniBand switches in Cabinet 1, Cabinets 3 - 5, and Cabinets 7 - 8 are used to provide the connection to the second-tier switches.
