CHECKPOINT can be submitted as a Teradata ARC statement or as a Teradata SQL statement (such as, through BTEQ or a user program). If an SQL CHECKPOINT statement is specified, the active journal is not saved.

If CHECKPOINT is used with the SAVE option, the Teradata Database creates the saved subtable. Enter this option only through the Teradata ARC form of the CHECKPOINT statement.
