The Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance 2850 platform is an optimized, fully-integrated data warehouse solution designed to meet entry-level data warehousing and analytical decision support requirements, typically requiring fast data scans and heavy analytics.

The 2850 platform offers 4-node and 2-node clique options. A 4-node clique consists of four processing nodes attached to two disk arrays. A 2-node clique consists of two processing nodes attached to one disk array. Each disk array consists of two drive enclosures, one with controllers and one with ESMs. The clique configurations create a CPU-rich environment, designed to support database compression and analytic features.

The 2850 platform supports single-system and multi-system configurations. The primary system (which is the first system in a multi-system configuration) may consist of multiple cliques.

The 2850 platform can scale up to 864 nodes with BYNET V5 using multiple 36-port InfiniBand switches, and Star Satellite topology. The 2850 platform can scale to 2048 nodes when larger switches are used.

The following can be optionally added to the first cabinet (which includes the primary system):
  • A second or third 2800 or 2850 system (either a 4-node or 2-node single-clique system) in addition to the primary system.
  • One or two 680 systems (with one processing node and one disk array each).
  • A combination of one additional 2800 or 2850 system (either a 4-node or 2-node single-clique system) and one or two 680 systems.
  • Up to two Quantum i80 tape libraries for backup and restore functionality and two optional Scalar key manager servers. One TMS BAR is permitted in the cabinet for the Scalar i80 BAR tape library configuration options.
  • One Data Domain DD4200 and one ES30 expansion shelf, plus one to three additional optional ES30 expansion shelves for backup and restore functionality. One TMS BAR is permitted in the cabinet for the Data Domain DD4200 and ES30 options.
  • Aster Appliance 5 nodes.
  • Hadoop Appliance 5 or Hadoop Appliance 6 nodes.
  • Channel servers, ECS servers, NCS servers, SAS HPA worker nodes, TMSs, and/or TMSSs in any combination.

Refer to the Cabinet Builds section for specific allowed configurations. Note that cabinet build restrictions are based on chassis configurations that use the maximum power. In some cases, additional TMSs may be allowed in the cabinet, if the configuration is approved by Teradata. Customers should contact their Teradata Representative who in turn will submit a request to Global Sales Support for review of proposed exceptions.
