LAN Adapters are mapped to PE vprocs by assigned host group id numbers (hgid). For example, all LAN Adapters with hgid=1 are mapped to all PE vprocs that also have hgid=1.

This procedure applies to configuring LAN Adapters. If you have a host channel adapter to configure, refer to the Host Channel Adapter Installation and Service Guide for information on host channel adapter configuration.

  1. Make sure you are in the Configure LAN Adapters screen.
  2. Choose one of the following options:
    Option Description
Include/Exclude Allows you to select the adapters to be included or excluded in the configuration. All adapters included in the configuration are listed in the vconfig.txt file. To include/exclude adapters, follow the Include/Exclude Adapters procedure.
Modify Allows you to modify certain adapter parameters, such as the host group identification number (hgid) to correspond to the vprocs created in the System Configuration step. The hgid number must be between 1 and 999, inclusively. To modify adapters, follow the Modify Adapter Parameters procedures.
If you do not want to configure LAN adapters, click Done to continue to the next step in the operation.
  3. Click Next.
After all adapters are configured, the host group identification number (hgid) for each adapter is compared to the PE and gateway vprocs. Any adapter with an hgid that does not match any PE/gateway vproc is considered an "orphan." Likewise, any PE or gateway vproc with an hgid that does not match any adapter is also considered an orphan.
  4. If an orphan is discovered, a warning screen appears and you can choose one of the following actions:
    Action (Click one) Description
Next Allows you to modify certain adapter parameters, such as the host group identification number (hgid) to correspond to the vprocs created in the System Configuration step. The hgid number must be between 1 and 999, inclusively. To modify adapters, follow the Modify Adapter Parameters procedures.
Back Return to the Configure LAN Adapters or Configure Channel Adapters screen and edit the hgids.
If configuration errors are found, one of the following messages appears:
    Message Description
Orphan After all adapters are configured, the host group identification number (hgid) for each adapter is compared to the PE and gateway vprocs. Any adapter with an hgid that does not match any PE/gateway vproc is considered an "orphan." Likewise, any PE or gateway vproc with an hgid that does not match any adapter is also considered an orphan. If any orphans are discovered, a warning screen appears. At this point you have two options:
    • To ignore the warning, click Next to continue the operation.
    • To correct the configuration, click Back to return to the Configure LAN Adapters screen and edit the hgids.
The hgid you entered is out of range. This message appears when an hgid number is less than 1 or greater than 999.
One or more nodes do not have Channel/LAN adapters. This is an unusual configuration. Are you sure you want to do this? Usually each node in the system has at least one Channel/LAN adapter. If you exclude all the Channel/LAN adapters on one or more nodes, this warning message appears. Choose No, let me select again to return to the Include/Exclude LAN Adapters screen. Click Yes to accept the configuration.
