In the Modify Group screen you can change the node type assigned to a group of nodes and, in some cases, the system they belong to. PUT enforces certain restrictions to prevent incorrect group changes. You can only modify nodes from one group at a time, however, not all nodes have to be selected for modification. A node can always be moved back into its original system and group.
  1. To change a node to a new type, select one or more nodes in the same group from the list on the right side of the screen and click Modify Group.

    Group Nodes

The Modify Group screen displays only applicable choices.

  2. Select the appropriate options as described in the following graphic and table:

    Option Choices Description
System Node groups are associated with a system based on BYNET connectivity. All nodes interconnected via the BLLI interface are placed into the same system based on what the Find All Systems step discovers. A multi-node system can have multiple node groups. Non-BYNET connected nodes are typically represented as a single-node system unless the node type is UNKNOWN.

On the Modification screen, a New System can be defined only when node groups containing UNKNOWN types are selected. When multiple UNKNOWN nodes are selected they can be moved to an existing system or new system. New systems are always assigned the next available system number. This is used more for staging new systems and is not often used in the field.

Group Each node is initially placed in a group based on installed software. When changing a group’s node type, you must define a New Group unless a valid existing group with the same type and identical software is available.
Node Type When changing a node type, a new group must be created if there is no existing group that matches the desired node type. PUT displays a warning if an invalid selection is made.
    Node types are:
    • ADB - Aster (generic) nodes cannot be changed to another type, however, this choice is available when an UNKNOWN node is selected.
    • ADBKMGR - Aster Backup Manager nodes cannot be changed to another type, however, this choice is available when an UNKNOWN node is selected.
    • ADBKWKR - Aster Backup Worker nodes cannot be changed to another type, however, this choice is available when an UNKNOWN node is selected.
    • ADLOADR - Aster Loader nodes cannot be changed to another type, however, this choice is available when an UNKNOWN node is selected.
    • ADQUEEN - Aster Queen nodes cannot be changed to another type, however, this choice is available when an UNKNOWN node is selected.
    • ADWORKR - Aster Worker nodes cannot be changed to another type, however, this choice is available when an UNKNOWN node is selected.
    • AWS - Administrative Work Station nodes.
    • BAR - Legacy Backup Server nodes can be changed to TPA, DSAMS, or DSADSC. It is also available from DSADSC and DSAMS.
    • DM - Data Mover nodes cannot be changed to another type, however, this choice is available when an UNKNOWN, TMS, NONTPA, or TPA node is selected.
    • DSADSC - Data Stream Controller nodes can be changed to BAR. It is also available from BAR.
    • DSAMS - Data Streams Media Server nodes can be changes to BAR. It is also available from BAR.
    • ECS - Extended Channel Server nodes cannot be changed to another type, however, this choice is available when an UNKNOWN or TMS node is selected.
    • EM - Eco System Manager nodes cannot be changed to another type. Available from UNKNOWN, TMS, NONTPA, or TPA.
    • HDB - Hadoop (generic) nodes cannot be changed to another type, however, this choice is available when an UNKNOWN node is selected.
    • HDDATA - Hadoop Data nodes cannot be changed to another type, however, this choice is available when an UNKNOWN node is selected.
    • HDEDGE - Hadoop Edge nodes, which are found only as part of a Hadoop cluster.
    • HDMASTR - Hadoop Master nodes cannot be changed to another type, however, this choice is available when an UNKNOWN node is selected.
    • NONTPA - Non Teradata/BYNET only nodes can only be changed to TPA or other types that have Vantage installed on them (TMSM, DM, UNITY, SASTPA, DSADSC, and TPADUMP). If PUT does not display an existing TPA group, a new group must be created when changing the node type to TPA.
    • QSM - Quantum Server Module nodes cannot be changed to another type. Available from UNKNOWN and TMS.
    • SAS - SAS TMS nodes cannot be changed to another type, however, this choice is available when an UNKNOWN or TMS node is selected.
    • SASHPA - SAS High Performance Analytics nodes can be changed only to SASTPA, however, this choice is available when an UNKNOWN or TMS node is selected.
    • SASTPA - TPA with SAS nodes cannot be changed to another type, however, this choice is available when an UNKNOWN, TMS, NONTPA, TPA, or SASHPA node is selected.
    • SWS - Service Workstations nodes cannot be changed to another type, however, this choice is available when an UNKNOWN node is selected.
