If you have elected to upgrade an alternate boot environment in the previous step, the Initialize Boot Environment step initializes the selected boot environment. No user input is required. This step takes less than an hour on a Linux system.

If one or more of the initializations fail, correct the condition that caused the failure and click Retry. You can then run the initialization again on all nodes, or just on the nodes that failed.

If you are returning to this step after a successful initialization (for example, by navigating to a previous step through the Table of Contents), you can perform all initializations again or use the boot environments without initializing them again. This option is only available if you have made identical selections at the Boot Environment Selection step. If a different boot environment selection was made for any system, all initializations are performed again.

When doing a SLES move, the new SLES version is installed in the Alternate Boot Environment during this step. This takes approximately 20 minutes during which status messages are displayed on the screen.
