If running PUT from a PC, use one or more of the following:
- An X server program to connect to the Linux system (needed only for running PUT as an application)
- Internet Explorer or Firefox
- Java 1.8 plug-in (automatically downloaded and installed on first use) on Linux
Connecting to PUT through a browser generally provides better performance than using X on a remote PC.
When accessing PUT through a client web browser for the first time, a request to install a Java plug-in may appear. If so, grant permission to install the plug-in, which is required for proper operation of the PUT GUI.
