The following instructions are intended for the customer or designated parties (such as professional movers).

  1. Review the Open Me First document.
  2. Before you begin unpacking the cabinet:
    • Make sure adequate help is available to unpack the crated cabinets.
    • Verify that the floor loading at the installation destination is within specifications for the total number of cabinet systems and other cabinets to be installed. See Data Center Considerations for additional information.
    • Check that the floor can support the concentrated floor loading. Be especially careful with vented floor tiles in sites with raised floors.
Vented floor tiles cannot support as much weight as solid tiles. When moving cabinets, replace vented floor tiles with solid floor tiles along the path where cabinets will be rolled. Failure to do so may cause damage or collapse of vented floor tiles, resulting in physical damage and/or bodily injury.
Make sure the equipment is in position before allowing the forklift or pallet jack to leave. A fully configured cabinet is very heavy. See Weight and Floor Loading for cabinet weights.
  3. Locate the panel labeled RAMP. This is the front of the container.
  4. Orient the container so the panel labeled RAMP has at least 3.7 m (12 ft) of clearance area. The width required in front of the container is 1.8 m (6 ft).
Uncrating the Cabinet and Installing the Ramp

  5. Cut the banding on the outside of the container.
  6. Push up and remove the top of the container at the RAMP end. This allows clearance for the ramp to be lowered.
    The ramp panel is heavy.
  7. Remove the four metal clamps holding the front panel (RAMP) and carefully lower the ramp panel to the floor.
  8. Remove the three clips holding the side panel to the rear panel and remove the side panel.
  9. Remove the final three clips and remove the other side panel and the rear panel.
  10. Locate and remove any boxes attached to the pallet or unit.
  11. Remove the protective foam collars from the top and middle.
  12. Remove the plastic bag and locate the door key.
  13. Gain access to the shipping brackets.
  14. Locate the shipping brackets at the front and rear of the cabinet and unbolt them from the pallet and cabinet.
If the customer intends to use seismic bracing, save the shipping brackets, bolts, and washers for later use.
  15. Attach the ramp to the front of the pallet using the rectangular metal brackets. Secure the ramp using four of the 3/8-inch x 1 1/4-inch long bolts, and four 1-inch flat washers (that held the shipping bracket to the pallet). There are 3/8-inch Tee nuts in both the pallet and the ramp. Make sure the ramp is securely fastened to the pallet.
Be sure the plastic bag is removed before rolling the cabinet down the ramp. The plastic bag presents a slippery hand hold and may prevent you from holding the cabinet securely.
A fully configured cabinet is very heavy. See Weight and Floor Loading for weight information.

  16. The cabinet is now free to be rolled off the pallet; do so now.
The cabinet is top heavy. Do not push it from the side. Push it from front to rear. Never move the cabinet with only one person.

  17. With one person at the front and one at the rear of the unit, slowly roll it down the ramp and on to the floor.
Moving the Cabinet to the On-Site Destination

  18. Move the cabinet to the installation location and let it acclimate to the new environment. See Performing Environmental Stabilization for more information.
  19. Repeat the unpacking procedure for any remaining crated cabinets that make up the system.
