The installed weight of a fully loaded 2800 base cabinet is heavier than the maximum weight of any previously released Teradata cabinet. The net weight of a fully loaded, uncrated, 2800 cabinet is 968 kg (2,134 lb). Although not every cabinet will be at maximum weight at installation, the potential for expanding a 2800 cabinet to its maximum weight must be considered when installing it at a data center.

Once a cabinet reaches its final destination at a data center, the crate, if used, will be removed. At this point, the only weight to be considered for installation is the net weight of the cabinet.

The following steps outline the process used to determine the installed weight of cabinets inside a data center:

  1. Estimate the net weight of the heaviest cabinet (W) in kg or lb.
    The account team can use the tools provided in Service Bulletin 502 (SB502) for all released Teradata products.
  2. Determine the structural support limit.
    Every building has weight limits in the form of distributed load. The weight limits can affect cabinet layout in terms of aisle and corridor widths.
    1. Find the Limit , the structural support limit (lb/ft 2 or kg/m 2) from data center personnel.

      A sample data center is shown below.

      The calculation area is called out below.

    2. Calculate the load on the building structure as follows:

      Load = W / (2ft x 2ft x 4tiles)

    3. If Limit >= Load , the layout is ok.
    4. If Limit < Load , the cold aisle or hot aisle, or both, need to be widened, or the cabinets need to be separated.
  3. If the final destination is inside a data center with a raised floor, determine the static load limit of the floor tile inside a data center.
    If (0.65 x W ) <= Tile Static Load Limit Install cabinet on one floor tile.
    If (0.65 x W ) > Tile Static Limit Do one of the following:
    • Install the cabinet across two floor tiles with no other cabinets installed next to the cabinet and sharing the same floor tiles.
    • Request data center personnel procure new floor tiles with a higher static load limit.
  4. Install the cabinet.
