The installation process installs the abu_service package on all Teradata Database nodes. When you run the configuration script the first time, you select one of the nodes to run the Appliance Backup Utility server. The configuration process also establishes the Appliance Backup Utility client and an Appliance Backup Utility service repository on each Teradata Database node. Job files that are created when a backup or restore job runs, scripts, and changes to the server configuration file are sent to the service repository.

If the Teradata Database node that you have configured as the Appliance Backup Utility server fails, you can reconfigure one of the other Teradata Database nodes as the Appliance Backup Utility server and copy the Appliance Backup Utility GUI to that node.

The node that you specify as the server node must have Appliance Backup Utility software and be connected to disk storage. For example, if Teradata Node 1 fails, you can specify Teradata Node 2 as the server and retain Teradata Node 3 as a client.
