Problems encountered during the execution of a Teradata SQL request are signalled to the application through the Error and Failure parcels (flavors 49 and 9, respectively). Whenever the application program receives a response parcel, it is possible that it will be an Error or Failure parcel, even if previous parcels were normal.

If Teradata Database does not know whether the request is complete, an Error parcel is returned.

Error parcels and Failure parcels have the same field layout. The distinction lies in the action taken by Teradata Database when the problem occurs.
