Normally, DSA locks all objects at the beginning of the backup. The object is unlocked once it is backed up. This ensures data consistency between objects but keeps all objects locked until the backup is complete.

With enhanced locking management, DSA locks one object at a time and unlocks it once it is backed up. DSA does not manage data consistency. Use enhanced locking management on objects that are not empty.

Severe performance degradation and failed jobs can occur when using enhanced locking management on a large number of empty objects. For best job performance, use a separate backup without enhanced locking management to back up databases with many small objects.
