A Teradata Database major release generally includes significant new features and enhancements, as well as changes incorporated in earlier versions as a result of Requests for Change (RFCs) and Discrepancy Reports (DRs). Upgrading to a major release involves moving to a new base version of Teradata Database and all associated patches. For example, moving from Teradata 15.10.xx to Teradata 16.0 is a major upgrade. A major upgrade may involve the conversion of system tables, user data or custom user features.
Software for a major release, provided through base packages, is distributed on CD-ROM or DVD, or through the Electronic Software Distribution method. Software patches are downloaded from the Teradata Software Server (TSS).
Major upgrades are performed only by Teradata Customer Services.
