All TDP messages begin with the characters 'TDP', four numeric digits, a blank, and the text of the message.

The text for messages related to CP activity commonly begins either with "cpname", where 'cpname' is the name of the CP as specified on the START command; or with "DEVICE xxxx:", where 'xxxx' is the hexadecimal device number, with an even number related to sending to the Teradata Database, and an odd number related to receiving from the DataBase.

The text for messages related to NP activity commonly begins either with "npname", where 'npname' is the name of the NP as specified on the START command; or with "NP xxxx direction:", where 'xxxx' is the hexadecimal value following 'NP' on the START command, and 'direction' is either INPUT or OUTPUT, depending on whether the message relates to receiving from or sending to the Teradata Database.
