Purpose

Increase the number of I/O buffers for CPs not requiring the CCU operand on the START command. The command overrides the system defaults.

Syntax

where:

number
Number of I/O buffers.

Usage Notes

The buffers requested by this command are not used for NPs, or CPs that require the CCU operand on the START command. If only NPs exist, or all CPs are of this type, then any use of INITIAL IOBUFS wastes storage.

The INITIAL IOBUFS command overrides the system default and is the only way to increase the numbers of I/O buffers before TDP initialization. The system default is a function of the number of CPs and the workload. This default is appropriate for most situations.

The INITIAL IOBUFS command should be used if the D CELLS command shows an excessive number of GETMAINS or WAIT COUNTS on the I/O buffers. If this occurs, consult with Teradata customer support personnel to determine the optimum number of I/O buffers.
