A workflow lets you follow the progress of data through tasks you set up. Each workflow must have a start node, end node, and at least one task. You can customize the properties of each task.
For example, the following workflow monitors a Data Mover job, then validates selected tables, and then sends an email when complete.
After you create a workflow, it is in an undeployed state. Use the Workflow Designer summary table view to deploy an undeployed workflow. After you deploy a workflow, it is available for use. You may edit some features in a deployed workflow, such as time intervals to run the workflow.
To start a workflow immediately, use the Start command in the Workflow tab of the Ecosystem Explorer portlet. To start a workflow later, edit the workflow in the Workflow Designer portlet to add a schedule.
