Completed Tasks
As soon as possible...
Work closely with your Teradata site team to make sure all onboarding tasks are addressed.
Use Site ID Creation Guidelines to verify site ID was created and is working.
Floor Layout Guidelines
  Allocate floor space.
Calculate front and rear clearances. See Cabinet Footprint and Clearances .
If you want to use a containment environment or non-raised floor environment for the data center, you must consult with Teradata. A detailed site survey and analysis is required determine the proper equipment layouts to meet the stated environmental requirements for the system.
Calculate the floor tile capacity and determine the weight limit.
Verify that the floor loading is adequate for the system.
Plan for future expansion now. Future systems generally require more space (ft2/cabinet) than the current one.
Unloading, Uncrating, and Entry Route
Review the policy on moving and relocating cabinets.
Verify that dock/delivery access is adequate.
Determine whether a liftgate truck or raised dock is required to unload the system.
Determine whether there is open access to the system floor (doors/ramps/elevators/appropriate floor covering).
Confirm the access path to the system floor is unobstructed, large enough, and strong enough (floor loading) to accommodate system cabinets.
Determine whether the ramps are steeper than 10°.
Determine whether a pallet jack is available for moving the crates.
Determine if there are arrangements for crate disposal or return. Usually, the carrier takes the crates and packing.
Tile Cutouts for Cables
Confirm the floor has adequate tiles with appropriate cutouts large enough to accommodate cables.
Verify that cutout edges are protected to prevent cable damage.
Cutout size must be minimal. Brush-sealed tile cutouts are strongly recommended to prevent cold air from coming through.
Environmental Requirements
Confirm your site meets the environmental requirements.
Cables
Check that the floor plans show cabling scheme and cable routing. Calculate cable lengths before actual cabling.
If you plan to use cable trays, confirm Teradata can use the same trays. Teradata does not provide cable trays.
Determine where cables are being laid.
Determine if certain areas or other cables need to be avoided.
Confirm that the sub-floor area is clean and free from obstructions. Inspect under the raised floor; if necessary, clean before installation.
Confirm Teradata provided adequate cable lengths.
Power
Calculate total power, in watts or kilowatts, for the system.
Calculate the total data center power capacity.
Determine a plan for adequate power capacity and power redundancy.
Confirm the data center has appropriate type and number of receptacles for all the system cabinets. Show this on the floor plan.
Verify there are multiple power feeds for redundancy.
Determine whether the data center has UPS units or street power.
Confirm that the AC boxes can be connected to different power sources, and the power sources can be connected to different PDU panels. The floor plan must show how dual power is connected to each cabinet.
LAN Connectivity
For new systems, make sure unique IP ranges are allocated for Server Management and BYNET IP address ranges:
  • Use the IP Address Configuration tool in Server Management to verify that the addresses assigned within the allocated ranges in the system are unique.
  • Verify that the addresses assigned within the allocated ranges in the system are not allocated elsewhere on the customer network.
Confirm that a broadband connection in and out of the building is available for Teradata’s use. Provide customer LAN IP addresses, subnet mask, and aliases to be used at installation. Include router information. This information is also needed for the private LAN for the BAR solution, if applicable.
Remote Connectivity
ServiceConnect is required for remote support and maintenance. Verify the following:
  • There is outbound network access for FTP
  • Security settings
  • Connection to outside networks is done with a shielded cable, unless optical Ethernet is used. Failure to use a shielded cable may invalidate regulatory compliance of the product.
Host Channel Adapter (HCA) Connectivity [Optional]
  Is a mainframe connection required?
Consult your account team to determine where to connect to the Teradata system, and the number of connections and cable lengths required. Teradata does not supply HCA cables.
Determine/provide host channel connection information, if applicable. Plan to define the IOGEN and MVS devices.
Backup and Restore (BAR) [Optional]
If the installation includes a Teradata BAR solution, determine the following:
  • Will the system be connected to an existing Teradata BAR solution?
  • Will an existing Teradata BAR solution be upgraded?
  • Is the connection type Fibre Channel or parallel SCSI?
  • How many connections are needed?
Spare Parts [Optional]
Determine if additional site spares have been ordered. Consult the Teradata team. Teradata provides a spare parts cabinet.
