The Windows Suite installer will first install the ODBC Driver for Teradata and dependent client products, then install Meta Data Services.

  1. Close all Windows programs and shut down any web server, IIS or Java-based, that has an MDS web application deployed to it.
  2. Run the executable file provided by Teradata Electronic Software Distribution.
  3. Click Install Product.
  4. Select the installation language, then click Next.
  5. In the Welcome screen, click Next.
  6. Read and accept the license agreement, then click Next.
  7. Click Next to install the Teradata client products to the default directory; to change directories, click Change.

    The default location is one of the following:

    • The location where the client products were previously installed
    • The Program Files folder on the boot drive
      Platform Path
      32-bit C:\Program Files\Teradata\Client\15.00
      64-bit C:\Program Files (x86)\Teradata\Client\15.00
  8. Check both the ODBC Driver for Teradata and Meta Data Services check boxes and click Install.A progress screen about installing the ODBC Driver and client products will display, followed by another install wizard for MDS.
  9. Select the installation language, then click OK.
  10. In the Welcome window, click Next.
  11. Read the Important Virus Message, then click OK.
  12. Click Next to install the Meta Data Services files to the default folder; to change folders, click Browse.

    The default location is one of the following:

    • The location where MDS was previously installed
    • The Program Files folder on the boot drive
      Platform Path
      32-bit C:\Program Files\Teradata\Teradata Meta Data Services
      64-bit C:\Program Files (x86)\Teradata\Teradata Meta Data Services
  13. Click Next to accept the default location for the MDS Log File, or click Browse to choose a different location.The default location is C:\mdslog
  14. In the Select Features dialog, select the components to install, then click Next.
    • MDS Core Files is required and cannot be cleared.
    • Meta Data Development Kit contains files needed to develop applications that exchange information with MDS.
      Highlight Meta Data Development Kit and select Change to select subcomponents of the development kit, then click Continue.

      • Unicode Library
        To develop Unicode-based programs with MDS, you must select the Unicode Library subcomponent.
    • MetaSurf Files has been discontinued and is no longer supported. The MetaSurf web application will not be provided in a future release.
    • Repository Explorer is the newly advocated Java server web application for searching and managing the repository.
    • DIM Update Files To enable the Automatic DIM Update feature, install the DIM Update Files on the system you designate as the DIM Update server. The DIM Update Files should be installed on only one server in the enterprise. An enterprise consists of one or more Teradata Database systems (which will be tracked by MDS), plus other systems that run MDS software, all using one MDS repository.
  15. In the Meta Data Services Repository Connection Information dialog box, enter the information that MDS will use to connect to the MDS repository, then click Next.

    The following information is saved in the Windows registry.

    Data Source Name Required

    Enter the DSN to use to connect to the MDS repository.

    The DSN specified must be configured as a System DSN in ODBC Administrator.

    User Name Required

    Enter the user name that MDS will use to log on to the Teradata Database.

    The User must have permissions to access the Teradata Database MDS tables.

    Database Password Required Enter the password that MDS will use to log on to the Teradata Database.
    Database Name Optional

    Enter the name of the Teradata Database that contains the MDS repository.

    If the Database Name is omitted, the database defaults to the default database specified in the DSN. If a default database is not specified in the DSN, the connection is made to the default database of the Teradata User.

  16. If you are installing Repository Explorer, the MDS Repository Explorer Web Application dialog box appears. Since Teradata Master Data Manager provides the web application framework, an MDM database is required for Repository Explorer.
    1. Click Browse to select an installation location for the web application.The path cannot contain spaces and is different than the path to the MDS installed files.
    2. Enter the logon information for the MDM database.
    3. Enter the file path to the JDK installation directory.The port number is filled in automatically. You do not need to change the value unless you are already using the default port for another application.
  17. Click Next to accept the default program folder for MDS or select a different folder then click Next.

    The default folder is Teradata Meta Data Services.

  18. Review the summary of the installation selections, then click Next to begin copying files or Back to make changes.
  19. Click Finish to complete the setup.
  20. If you perform additional MDS installations, repeat this process for each workstation or server.
