This section provides a brief overview of how Teradata client products support user-defined custom data types known as User-Defined Types (UDTs), and user-defined custom functions known as User-Defined Methods (UDMs).
For more in depth information about using UDTs and UDMs see Introduction to Teradata (B035-1091), SQL External Routine Programming (B035-1147) and SQL Fundamentals (B035-1141).
User-Defined Types (UDTs)
UDTs can be created to provide representations of real world entities within Teradata Database. Choosing a set of UDTs that closely matches the entities encountered in a given business can yield a system that is easier to understand and hence easier to maintain. Support for UDTs and UDMs integrates the power of object-oriented technology directly into Teradata Database.
