Teradata SQL Assistant was designed to be extensible. Support for new SQL variants, or for new versions of currently supported variants, can be added without requiring any changes to the application itself. Instead, it uses a set of data and control files that are designed to support a specific flavor of SQL. These files can easily be modified to support a different version of that SQL variant. It is very rare that any change would be required to the application itself in order to support future versions of the Teradata Database.
The control files provided with Teradata SQL Assistant 16.20 were designed to support Teradata Database 16.20. To fully support a future version, do one of the following:
- Copy the data files from the corresponding version of the Teradata Developer Tools package.
- Manually modify the data files to add support for the new features.
