There are several steps to create a new cube. You can change design decisions after creating the cube, but the initial steps must be taken in the following order:

  1. Create a blank schema.

    See Creating a New Schema.

  2. Define the fact tables and dimension tables for the cube.

    See Fact Tables and Dimension Tables.

  3. Define the relationships between the fact tables and dimension tables.

    See Defining Relationships Between Fact Tables and Dimension Tables.

  4. Define a dimension for the cube. .

    A dimension can be used by any cube in the schema. See Creating a Dimension

  5. Define a hierarchy with at least one level in your dimension.

    See Creating a Hierarchy for a Dimension.

  6. Create at least one measure group.

  7. Create a cube which includes one or more measure groups.

  8. Validate and publish the cube.
