Suppose you want to send an email message to SM@example.com whenever a critical or fatal Server Management alert is triggered.
  1. In SMWeb, configure the system to monitor the Server Management portlet.
    1. On the Server Management dashboard, select Settings > Viewpoint .
    2. If the correct IP address of the Viewpoint server is not listed under Server IP Address, enter the address, select Active, and click Save.
    3. Enter the CAM credentials, or use the default.
      Most systems can accept the default.
    4. Test the connection.
  2. In the Alert Setup portlet, configure delivery settings.
    1. From the Setup Options list, select Delivery Settings.
    2. From the Delivery Types list, select Email.
    3. In the SMTP Host box, type smtp.example.com.
    4. Select the Enable email check box.
    5. From the Port list, select Use default port to use the default port 25.
    6. In the Server Timeout box, enter 30 seconds.
    7. Under Reply-To, enter a reply address in the Email Address box.
      For example, DoNotReply@example.com.
    8. Leave Advanced Options blank.
    9. In the Test Recipient box, type sm@example.com.
    10. Click Test to verify the SMTP server delivers the email to the address you specified.
    11. Click Apply.
  3. In the Alert Setup portlet, create an Action Set.
    1. From the Setup Options list, select Alert Presets.
    2. From the Preset Options list, select Action Sets.
    3. Select "" next to Action Sets.
    4. In the Action Set Name box, type CustomEmailAlert.
    5. Under Actions, make sure the Include in Alert Viewer check box is selected.
      This option is selected by default so you can view alerts for this action set in the Alert Viewer portlet.
    6. From the Actions list, select Email recipients.
    7. In the Email box, type sm@example.com.
    8. Click Apply.
  4. In the Server Management portlet, define the alert rules for TEST1.
    1. From the Configure list, click Alerts.
    2. From the SiteIDs list, click to add a site ID.
    3. In the Site ID box, type TEST1.
    4. Click Apply.
    5. Under SiteIDs, click TEST1.
    6. From the Alerts list, click to add an alert.
    7. In the Alert Name box, type Test Alert.
    8. Click the Enabled check box.
    9. From the Match list, leave the default as All.
    10. From the Alert Rules list, select: Severity > is greater than or equal to > Critical.
    11. Leave the Notify again if alert updates check box selected.
    12. Under Alert Action, select CustomEmailAlert.
    13. In the Message box, type Severity is critical or fatal.
    14. Click Apply.
  5. In the email inbox for sm@example.com, monitor the messages from DoNotReply@example.com.
