  1. Go to the directory where you downloaded the Teradata Studio Express package.
  2. Unzip the Teradata Studio Express package to your local file system.
  3. Create connection profiles to be used at installation:
    1. In the unzipped Teradata Studio Express package, go to the Config directory.
    2. Edit the TeradataStudioExpressDataSources_template.config file to define the connection profiles.
    3. Save the file as TeradataStudioExpressDataSources.config in the Config directory or any other directory that is accessible by the install.
  4. [Optional] Set preferences to be used at installation:
    1. In the unzipped Teradata Studio Express package, go to the Config directory.
    2. Edit the TeradataStudioExpressPreferences_template.config file to define the preferences.
    3. Save the file as TeradataStudioExpressPreferences.config in the Config directory or any other directory that is accessible by the installation process.
    4. When you install Teradata Studio Express with customized TeradataStudioExpressPreferences.config file, it uses it every time you start the Teradata Studio Express. The changes made in preferences apply only during that instance and are not persistent after Teradata Studio Express restart.
      Starting with version 20.00.00.09, a new preference is available in Teradata Data Tools that allows you to persist user-defined settings and override the predefined configuration in TeradataStudioExpressPreferences.config.
  5. [Optional] If you intend to connect to systems using Kerberos Authentication, create a krb5.ini file. This task is outside the scope of Teradata Studio Express.
  6. Double-click setup.exe to start the Teradata Studio Express installer, accept the license, and select the Java Runtime Environment.
    If Zulu JRE 21 is installed, the Installer dialog box specifies the JRE path. If JRE from another vendor is installed, then, click Browse to select a compatible version.

    If the selected Java Runtime Environment is different than system default JRE (JRE configured in the PATH environment variable), the TeradataStudioExpress.ini file carries the selected JRE location.

    If the JRE is removed or upgraded after installing Teradata Studio Express, run the UpdateJRE.ps1 as administrator to update JRE path in the TeradataStudioExpress.ini file. For example:

    powershell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File UpdateJRE.ps1 "C:\Program Files\Zulu\zulu-21\"

    This script is in the same directory as TeradataStudioExpress.exe.

    Important: JRE version 11/17/22 changed to 21; UpdateJRE.vbs changed to UpdateJRE.ps1; cscript command changed to powershell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File; zulu-21 in example path.
  7. In the Workspace Location step, keep the default or Browse to a different location.
    The workspace directory contains workspace files, including the SQL project folder and log file.
  8. [Optional] If you edited the TeradataStudioExpressDataSources.config file, do the following in the install wizard:
    1. On the Pre-Configure Database Connection Profile page of the Install Wizard, select Set up Studio with pre-configured TeradataStudioExpressDataSources.config.
    2. Browse for the location of the files.
  9. [Optional] If you edited the TeradataStudioExpressPreferences.config file, do the following in the install wizard:
    1. On the Pre-Configure Database Connection Profile page of the Install Wizard, select Set up Studio with pre-configured TeradataStudioExpressPreferences.config.
    2. Browse for the location of the files.
  10. [Optional] If you intend to connect to systems using Kerberos Authentication, do the following in the install wizard:
    1. On the Pre-Configure Database Connection Profile page of the Install Wizard, select Setup for Kerberos environment. As noted, this modifies the registry. So, be sure you have registry edit permission. It also modifies the TeradataStudioExpress.ini file.
    2. Browse to the location of your krb5.ini file and click OK.
    3. Click Next.
  11. Designate the Destination Folder options you want and click Next.
  12. In the Setup Type step, select one of the following options:
    • Typical: Installs Teradata Studio Express with the default set of features. The AI Assistantbeta feature is not included in a Typical installation.
    • Custom: Allows you to choose which features to install. Select this option if you want to include the AI Assistantbeta feature.
  13. If you selected Custom in the previous step, the Feature Selection dialog box appears with the following:
    • Teradata Studio Express: This is the main product feature and is always selected. It cannot be unselected.
    • AI Assistantbeta: This feature is not selected by default. Select this feature to enable the AI Assistantbeta in Teradata Studio Express.
    Click Next to continue.
    To add or remove the AI Assistantbeta feature after installation, go to Windows Settings > Apps > Installed Apps (or Add/Remove Programs), locate Teradata Studio Express, and select Modify. The installer presents the Feature Selection dialog box where you can enable or disable the AI Assistantbeta feature.
  14. Click Install.
