VantageCloud Enterprise BaaS offers cross site restoration for two use cases, that is for seeding or ad hoc data movement also known as cross-site restoration (CSR) Seeding and for the disaster recovery (DR) use case, also known as CSR DR.

Cross-Site Restore (Seeding)

The Cross-Site Restore (Seeding) is currently only supported for Cross- Zone and Same Region restores.

Cross Site Restore, or CSR Seeding, where a partial backup (that is. object level backup, where object means database or table, or subset of a full DBS backup) of the source system is restored also known as Seeded to a target Vantage system, and thus adds the selected objects) to the target Vantage system’s DBS. The CSR restore is performed by the backup from the source system’s backup repository and uses the source system’s Data Stream Controller to manage the restore process. The CSR Seeding is performed using standard DSA backups.

For Cross-Site restoration (seeding), in addition to meeting the prerequisites of same-site restoration on the source site, you must also fulfill the following:

  • You must have Vantage 2.4.2 on both source and target sites.
  • Make sure the Console user exists on the target site. If the user does not exist, create a user using the steps mentioned in the same-site restoration prerequisites.
  • Grant create, alter, and drop permissions to the user on the target site.
  • The logged in user must have restore access rights on all databases and all tables on the target site.
The steps to perform the Cross Site Restoration (Seeding) is the same as Restoring Backups, you just need to select the correct target site for CSR (seeding).
