Explanation

This error is reported when the source row is deleted during a merge update process. This is a very special case, where source rows are accessed with access locks. In this case, it may be possible that some other transaction might delete the source row when it was matched against multiple rows. In merge update processing, we need to look forward to see whether any more source rows qualify the same target row. In this case we may scan different data blocks and come back. In case of RowHashmatch merge mode, if we read directly from base table, we may face a situation where source row may be deleted in the middle of the update.
