Block Storage is the low-latency persistent block-level storage offered by a public cloud vendor. It is used for AMP storage to store data on the primary cluster.
Primary cluster block storage stores user perm data, data dictionary tables, spool, volatile tables, and global temporary tables.
Compute clusters also have block storage, but it is limited. There are no user perm tables or global temporary tables, but it stores some dynamic data for spool and volatile tables, and some minimal data dictionary information. This dictionary data information is not persisted on compute clusters.
The Block File System manages tables stored in primary cluster block storage.
Storage Expansion for Primary Cluster
When you initially provision an environment, you specify the amount of block storage you want for the primary cluster.
After provisioning your environment, you can add block storage to the primary cluster in increments of 1 TB. This operation requires restarting the primary cluster. To minimize the impact of the restart, the Session Manager holds active sessions and queries. When the operation completes, you are charged for the additional storage.
You cannot reverse this operation.

- Complete the form and ask Teradata Services to add block storage to the primary cluster.
