Maximum benefit is achieved when the COMPRESS phrase is applied to a column under the following conditions:
  • Enough rows contain a compressible value (for example, null, zero, blank, or constant value) in the compressed field to exceed the break-even point. For details, see Column Partitioning Performance .
  • The shortened row length eliminates one or more data blocks.
