In a traditional Analytics Database, each Access Module Processor (AMP) owns its assigned data and has its own instance of the file system. Within each AMP, the file system organizes tables and rows. Block Storage on the primary cluster is similar to this.
VantageCloud Lake offers a new storage option, the Object File System (OFS), which is object storage integrated with VantageCloud Lake and which has attributes of the traditional file system.
This storage is outside of the primary cluster, but is accessible by both the primary cluster and all compute clusters.
The Object File System provides low cost storage and takes advantage of the compute cluster architecture so that you can scale and isolate workloads.
Teradata recommends storing most of your user tables, especially large tables, in the Object File System.
For details on the best storage options to use for your workloads to balance cost with performance, see Data Storage.
