This statement is a Teradata extension to the ANSI SQL:2011 standard.

Result Type

TRUNC is a scalar function whose return data type is DATE.

If the data type of date_value is TIMESTAMP or TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE, the return data type is DATE by default.
